Top Rain Dances to Welcome the Monsoons
After making a fashionably late entrance, the Monsoon is finally making a slow move across India. It is time to look forward to the cool breezes, the fresh smell of wet earth, and all the chai and pakoras that will inevitably follow. Here are some rain dances from Bollywood to inspire you to bust a move or two as the rain starts to fall chama cham cham.
1) Rain is Falling, Gunehgar (1995)
If the rain gets you in a goofy mood and you have a gang of friends on hand, why not dance to nonsense syllables like ‘tan tana tan, tanan tanan’ in the style of Atul Agnihotri hitting on Pooja Bhatt.
2) Dekho Zara Dekho, Yeh Dillagi (1994)
If you are usually a bit uptight and prim, and you can’t really see yourself letting your hair down while the rain washes away all the creases in your clothes, then take some inspiration from Akshay Kumar who loosened his tie and let the rain do its thing all for the love of Kajol.
3) Na Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai, Chaalbaaz (1989)
If you are a free spirit and like to go with the flow, you will enjoy kicking your shoes off, throwing your umbrella aside along with all your cares in the world and grabbing the first partner you can find to bust some groovy moves like Sri Devi and Sunny Deol.
4) Barso Re Megha, Guru (2007)
If you are all by yourself and still thrilled about the rain, you have the freedom to dance like no one is watching (except for may be a few dozen goats), like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
5) Geela Geela Paani, Satya (1998)
If you are slightly scared of water, perhaps you are from the desert and do not really understand what rain is, then you can also stay indoors and dance from the security of your dry home like Urmiila Matondkar.
6) Tip Tip Barsa Paani, Mohra (1994)
If your roof is leaking and there is also a danger of seepage short circuiting the wiring in your house but you don’t really care because you are in love, simply head to the terrace of your building and leave your cares behind for some romance ala Raveena Tandon and Akshay Kumar.
7) Rim Jhim, Rim Jhim, 1942: A Love Story (1994)
If your roof is leaking but your values are more conservative than Raveena and Akki’s, then you could take some inspiration from the more shy moves of Manisha Koirala and Anil Kapoor. Just because it is raining doesn’t mean you can’t be decent.
8) Cham Cham Cham, Baaghi (2016)
Just because you are caught at the railway station and your train is delayed by 28 hours due to flooding on the tracks, that is still no reason not to break into a rain dance. Learn a move or two from Shraddha Kapoor and Tiger Shroff.
9) Pyaar Hua Ikraar Hua, Shree 420 (1955)
Even if you are over the hill and your aching joints won’t let you go jumping crazy in the rain, you can still get a little bit celebratory under the umbrella with your S.O. like Nargis and Raj Kapoor.
10) Ghanan Ghanan, Lagaan (2001)
And if you are from the sweltering north where the Monsoon is yet to mark its arrival in any shape or form, you can dance in anticipation at the mere sight of a slight grey cloud. For better results, get the whole village to join you like Amir Khan and co.
