Celeb Spotting at PM Modi’s Swearing-in Ceremony

As befits the Prime Minister of the world’s largest democracy, India’s 14th Prime Minister’s swearing-in ceremony was one grand affair. Among the attending VIPs were also some well-known faces from B-town. Here is a close look at what they wore and whether they wore it well.

1) Kangana Ranaut

Kangana’s looks have been turning heads lately, be it at Cannes or at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. While at Cannes she was bold and different, at the swearing-in ceremony she made an elegant appearance in a sheer white handloom saree with a gold border. Full marks for the choice of indigenous handiwork and for the appropriateness of the outfit. 10/10

2) Shahid Kapoor

Shahid showed up at the PM’s swearing-in ceremony with his beautiful wife Mira. While Mira wore an understated Indian ensemble with traditional floral patterns in muted rusts, red and green, Shahid chose to wear a pin-striped suit. In objective terms, he looked quite dapper, complete with his shades, but given the formality of the occasion perhaps he could have worn a tie and shown his eyes (for good manners’ sake)? Not convinced he wore it right. 5.5/10

3) Anil Kapoor and Anupam Kher

BFFs Anil Kapoor and Anupam Kher had looked forward to attending the swearing-in ceremony together. Both looked well matched and quite dignified in formal suits. While Mr. Kher wore a navy blue suit with big grey checks and an indigo tie, Anil Kapoor broke the monotony of his attire with classic white bold stripes on his tie. 10/10

4) Karan Johar

KJo came to the ceremony in a traditional, black, Indian bandh gala with white churidaar and black sandals. His choice of black-and-white was appropriately classy yet staid as suited to a formal, state occasion but the hint of pink in his glasses quietly let us know he had not left his fun side home. 11/10
