Film Releases This Week: Which to Watch?

Here’s a quick look at the upcoming Bollywood releases this week and useful pointers to help you decide which might be the best to watch.

1) India’s Most Wanted

Genre: Thriller
Starring: Arjun Kapoor, Amrita Puri, Rajesh Sharma, Prasanth, Shantilal Mukherjee
Directed by: Raj Kumar Gupta
Currently one of India’s anticipated releases, India’s Most Wanted is a thriller about a covert operation to catch a deadly terrorist.

The story is said to be based on real life events leading up to the arrest of the Indian Mujahideen terrorist Abdul Subhan Qureshi, dubbed ‘India’s Osama.’ The most surprising aspect of his capture was that it took place without the use of any weapons. Now THAT must have involved some really cool ninja strategies!

Special screenings of the film have elicited high praise from the film industry. According to Abhishek Bachchan he “Really enjoyed watching #IndiasMostWanted. Taut, edge-of-your-seat and very engaging. Just as a thriller should be. @arjunk26 you were simmering. So nice to see films being made on our unsung heroes too. Well done Rajkumar (sic) and the entire cast and crew.”

2) PM Narendra Modi

Genre: Biopic
Starring: Vivek Oberoi, Boman Irani, Barkha Bisht, Manoj Joshi, Zarina Wahab, Prashant Narayanan
Directed by: Omung Kumar

This film, like the personality it is based on, needs no introduction. Based on the life of the 14th Prime Minister of India, the movie had to wait for the general elections in India to conclude before it could be released. And now it’s here, the story of Narendra Modi.

Vivek Oberoi won’t just sport one Narendra Modi face for the film, he will be seen in nine different looks chronicling the different phases of the 14th Prime Minister’s life.

The soundtrack of the film boasts big names including music by A.R. Rahman, lyrics by Javed Akhtar, Prasoon Joshi and Sameer. There was controversy surrounding the inclusion of two previously unreleased tracks by Javed Akhtar and Sameer respectively, and the credits given to them, but the songs have been retained. You will be getting music from three different movie soundtracks for the price of one.

3) Chaturnath

Genre: Comedy, Drama
Starring: Omkar Das Manikpuri, Arvind Agarwal, Nira Suarez, Akhilesh Gaur, Rajesh Morya
Directed by: Swadesh
The story of a ‘fake lawyer’ (‘farzi vakil’) who starts to fancy himself a crusader for justice, but before he can help the needy, he has the local mafia to deal with.

The other two releases have heavy themes. If you are in the mood for some light, dare we say B-level, entertainment, this could be a good way to kill time.

With dialogues like “Yeh kaala coat havaa ka raasta bhi badal deta hai” this movie promises to add some new filmy quips to your repertoire.
