Film Releases This Week: Which to Watch? The Lion King, Jhoota Kahin Ka, Penalty and more…

With the rains on full swing, running inside the cinema is one of the best ways to wait for the torrents to abate so you can make your way to your favourite chai stall. This week has lots of drama to kill time with.

The Lion King

Genre: Animated musical drama
Starring: Shah Rukh Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Sanjay Mishra, Ashish Vidyarthi, Asrani, Aryan Khan, Shernaz Patel, Neha Gargava
Directed by: Jon Favreau
A remake of the original Disney animation from 1994, The Lion King returns with more photorealistic graphics that aim to transport viewers straight into the heart of the African savannah where young lion cub Simba must master the harsh realities of the jungle before he can step into the shoes of its king, his father, Mufasa, but not without the support of a few good friends.

Watch it because…

1) Disney has gone all out to recreate the magic of the original Lion King that continues to live in our memories and in our singalongs every time we hear Hakuna Matata! If you or your little one could not watch the film the first time around, now is the time to watch the modern, and fascinatingly realistic version of a true classic.

Jhootha Kahin Ka

A not-uncommon story about the clash of generations and cultures, but in outrageous proportions. Two brothers leave for Mauritius for higher studies but end up building entirely new families and lives for themselves there. Everything is hunky dory until Papa dearest and the rest of the fam show up from India, aghast at what they see.

Watch it because…

1) This is a great way to show your support for Rishi Kapoor who has been battling Cancer for the past ten months in New York. He looks his usual chipper self in this film though.

Penalty

Genre: Drama
Starring: Kay Kay Menon, Lukram Smil, Bijou Thaangjam, Shashank Arora, Manjot Singh, Aakash Dabhade
Directed by: Shubham Singh
Against the backdrop of college football, this is an inspiring story of talent shining through in spite of the obscuring influence of racism on the lives of so many who are made to feel like “outsiders” in their own country.

Watch it because…

1) It is a movie, plus it has football. Two entertainments at the price of one.

Family of Thakurganj

From the ‘Land of guns and goons’ comes the story of a family saga embroiled in power struggles, local politics and the inevitable life of exploitation and crime that comes with it. But a new generation of young rebels is stirring the winds of change. Will justice finally prevail in a lawless country?

Watch it because…

1) The screenplay has been written by Dilip Shukla, the same genius who gave us Andaaz Apna Apna, Damini, Dabangg, and Dabangg 2.

Shaadi Ke Patasey

Genre: Comedy, Drama
Starring: Arjun Manhas, Tariq Imtyaz, Mushtaq Ali, Asrani, Shagufta Ali, Rahul Dev, Sanam Ziya, Rani Bhan, Sajad Khaki, Hussein Khan,

An endearing small-town love story turns into rib-tickling comedy when the candy floss dreams of young romance have to contend with the realities of family life, complete with the saas bahu aur jethaani style drama.

Watch it because…

1) The romance is innocent, the aspirations are real, the family dynamics are on point.
