The world of Bollywood is exciting from top to toe, even something as humble as footwear can become headlines when filmy folk are involved. Of late there has been a lot of talk of jootas and chappals for various reasons. Here is some of our favourite shoe related news. 1) When Ranveer went viral for holding wife Deepika’s sandals
Newlyweds Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are in the news almost every other day for the everyday cho chweet acts of love ‘Bajirao’ Ranveer showers on his ‘Mastani’ Deepika. In his latest demonstration of what #couplegoals should look like, Ranveer was seen holding his wife’s sandals as she made her barefooted way through a wedding they were both attending. The accidental photo of this gesture of his went viral and broke the internet. This Cinderella moment is a lesson for us all. Watch and learn ladies: if he loves you, he will hold your shoe. Men take note too! Your manly biceps are good for nothing if they aren’t being used to lift your lady love’s things.
On a side note, Ranveer doesn’t just carry Deepika’s shoes he also gifts her cute slippers that bring a smile to her gorgeous face.
2) Ranaut vs. Bhatt Family: Chappal ke Woh Lamhe
Outspoken Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel is just as brash when it comes to taking on big names in Bollywood. She recently alleged that director Mahesh Bhatt threw a ‘chappal’ at a 19-year-old Kangana at the preview of Woh Lamhe and refused to let her attend the screening of her own work, causing her much distress. This is the latest chapter in an ongoing saga between the Ranaut and Bhatt family which began with Kangana voicing her opinions against the apparent nepotism in Bollywood which celebrates the ‘mediocre’ work of the likes of Aalia Bhatt. Bhatt’s wife Soni Razdan and daughter Aalia have both chosen to give these allegations the silent treatment. Which leaves us to ponder: Whose slipper did Mahesh Bhatt hurl at Kangana? His own? Then what did HE wear for the remainder of the evening? The mystery continues…
3) Sunil Grover and Kapil Sharma’s Comedy Shoe
A similar story of someone throwing a shoe at someone else involving comedian Kapil Sharma allegedly attacking fellow funny man Sunil Grover had been doing the rounds since 2017 until recently. Insider reports from the team of the Kapil Sharma Show on Sony Entertainment Television had once stated that on a particular evening on the show’s set a drunken Kapil had manhandled his colleague and made him the recipient of his shoe missile. But Sunil Grover recently cleared the air of this apparent rumour stating explicitly that the shoe attack never happened. He even expressed his wonder at the identity and purpose of the source of such a crazy lie!
4) When Ranbir Kapoor asked: Chappal kahaan se liya?
Busy Bollywood actors always seem to look like they do not have the time of day for anyone. But late at night while leaving Mumbai Airport Ranbir Kapoor showed us a glimpse of his ever curious mind and keen eye as he spotted a pair of slippers on a paparazzo and asked him: Chappal kahan se liya? Not once, but twice! ‘Andheri station’ was the response. Was that question genuinely meant? Was Ranbir ‘asking for a friend’? Or was he just distracting the shutterbug from taking more photos? We want to know what the chappals looked like to inspire that question!
5) Akshay Kumar’s shoe fetish
For those who think shoe madness is solely a ‘woman thing’, here’s news: One of the most manliest of men, ‘kabhi bang, kabhi boom’ action hero Akshay Kumar has ‘over 350 pairs of shoes’ and ‘pants in all colours of the rainbow’ according to wife Twinkle Khanna who revealed this fun fact in a post-event interview at HT India’s Most Stylish Awards. She also admitted she takes longer than her husband to get ready, because he has a team of 11 to dress him while she does it alone! We know wears the pants, and who the shoes in this relationship.
Our suggestion to Akki: Buy 15 more pairs of shoes to make it a different pair for each day of the year!
